Hypnosis in Everyday Life
  • Have you ever "drifted off" whilst thinking of a loved one?
  • Have you ever driven down a familiar road and "forgotten" large chunks of the car journey?
  • Have you ever been asked a question and answered it whilst watching a movie or reading a book and cannot remember the question or the answer?
  • Have you ever been surprised to hear from a friend that he saw you in the street, even said hello to you, and you walked straight past him?

In these states, much the same thing has happened as occurs in hypnosis.

So therefore... if you answered YES to question No. 1, you are mistaken...?

The Hypnotic State

Everyone has, and perhaps quite frequently, been in a hypnotic state without realising it.

In childhood, daydreaming which is so real to the child that the dream or imagined situation takes the place of ordinary reality, is essentially self-hypnosis.

In adult life, many people still daydream occasionally, and most people will have episodes of "absent-mindedness" or "going somewhere else" at times, in which they are, as we say, "in a world of their own".

The consciousness of the individual concerned separates into two streams, which are "out of touch" with each other.

You are actually conscious and aware of only one line of thought and action at this time, while the rest is being done at an unconscious level.

Hypnosis is really a normal everyday state of mind that we all go in and out of all the time and is defined as a relaxed, focused state of concentration.

Hypnosis had its beginnings way back in 1766 and is still used in healing to this day, in fact more and more so, in fact as you begin to know and understand more and more so you can see how it forms an integral part of meditation.

Brain Waves

Now I am sure that you've all heard of the different brain waves that can be measured when we are in different states of mind:

Beta - This is our normal waking state, alert and conscious. The focus of the 5 senses... sight... sound... touch.. smell... taste. Concentration on cognitive tasks.

  • Keywords - alert, anxious, problem solving, utilising judgement, decision making, processing information, mental focus or activity.

Alpha - Relaxed, reflecting or state of hypnosis. Creativity and visualisation. This level is in resonance with the Earth frequency and this in the normal state that animals function in. This is the best state for the treatment of stress and the gateway to all the other levels.

  • Keywords - relaxation, no worries, in tune, inspiration, creativity.

Theta - Waking dream state, meditation. Receptive to information beyond normal conscious awareness. Where hidden memories or secrets are stored in the mind that we block in times of pain to survive and where brain activity slows almost to the point of sleep. Awakening of intuition and extra sensory perception skills.

  • Keywords - meditation, memories, intuition.

Delta - Deep sleep and all its stages, detached awareness, healing and coma. The body repairs itself, heals several times faster than normal. Delta acts as a form of radar seeking out the deepest unconscious levels. Access to things we could not understand trough out "thought" process. Access to others thoughts, deepest states of meditation.

  • Keywords - intuition, attunement, insight, extreme peace.

We actually move around from beta to theta all day long without noticing it. Hypnosis is really just a word to identify a calm, relaxed, and safe state of mind. There is nothing "woof hey" or dangerous about it.

Hypnosis is one of the most relaxing, gentle life changing therapies around. It's a technique that has proven time and time again to create remarkable life changes for people.

IMPORTANT NOTE: A person cannot be hypnotised unless he or she agrees and co-operates - this cannot be stressed enough. Also remember that whilst hypnotised, nobody can make you do anything that you do not want to do.

Well and good but what about all those people that we see on telly doing all sorts of crazy things?

Even those people on television dancing and acting like Elvis or eating raw onions are doing it because they want to! Remember they have chosen to participate.

It must be emphasised that what hypnotherapists do is, by definition, therapeutic. Stage hypnosis is very different. It is a form of entertainment.

When under hypnosis you will feel very relaxed, just like that wonderful feeling when you are tired, lying on your bed and so overcome with comfort that you wish the moment could last forever.

Through simple hypnotic, relaxation techniques you can easily attain this state at which time it becomes easy to visualise yourself becoming healthier, wealthier, happier, more confident...
